Tim McCarver, global atmospheric scientist

“It has not been proven, but I think ultimately it will be proven that the air is thinner now, there has been climatic changes over the last 50 years in the world and that is one of the reasons that balls are carrying much better now than I remember.”

Meteorologist Tim McCarver,  during Saturday's Brewers-Cardinals game.

True science here. Where do I start?

For starters, let's appreciate the fact that McCarver, a bastion of Midwestern Red State traditions, must read newspapers and have seen the words "climate change" enough to use them in a conversation. Bravo. Whether you believe it's man-made or God's will, somebody out there has it in for the penguins, and at least Tim isn't drinking the tea party tea.

But thinner air? OMG. He must be breathing it.
